Rice Krispie Treats
Yes, I am aware that there are several Rice Krispie recipes available. The only change is that I used a whole can of sweetened condensed milk in this recipe. I did say a full 14-ounce can! The final product is a deliciously sweet delight that remains soft! Make your own handmade marshmallows if you’re feeling ambitious.
Ingredients in Bars
Sweetened Condensed Milk: If a little is nice, surely a lot is better? In this instance, it certainly is. Many recipes call for just 1/2 cup of sweetened condensed milk, but believe me when I say that you should use the whole can! When purchasing sweetened condensed milk, read the labels carefully. This recipe does not call for evaporated milk.
I used unsalted butter, but salted butter would be OK if that’s what you had on hand.
Is it necessary to use the whole sweetened condensed milk can?
You GET to use the whole can; you don’t have to! Using the full can makes the dessert more sweet and ooey-gooey while also keeping it soft for longer.
Is it possible to make Rice Krispie Bars in a different pan size?
Yes! I used an 8-inch baking dish since I wanted the bars to be thick. Use a 9-inch baking dish or even a 9-inch baking dish. The bars, however, will be much thinner.
Can I Freeze Rice Krispie Treats?
Yes! Allow for thorough cooling of the bars. Cut them into separate bars and wrap them individually in plastic wrap. Finally, freeze the wrapped bars for up to 3-4 months in a freezer-safe bag. Make sure the package is labeled and dated.

- 3 tablespoons butter, unsalted
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
- 10 ounce package of little marshmallows
- 6 cups rice cereal (174 g)
-
Using nonstick cooking spray, coat an 8×8-inch baking dish. Place aside.
-
Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until everything is well combined. To avoid burning, bring the mixture to a low simmer and whisk regularly.
-
Stir in the marshmallows until they are completely melted.
-
Remove the pot from the heat and, using a clean rubber spatula, fold in the rice cereal (I like to spray the spatula with nonstick spray to prevent sticking). Stir until everything is evenly covered.
-
Press the mixture into an equal layer in the prepared baking dish.
-
Before cutting and serving, allow the bars to cool to room temperature.
