My husband and I have a love for food. We like to try new recipes, mostly from the comfort of our own home. This is one of my favorite cheese ball recipes that’s perfect when you’re looking for something tasty but easy to make!
The “goat cheese ball recipe” is a simple and delicious appetizer that can be made in under an hour. It’s rich, creamy, and pairs well with any type of wine or beer.
This recipe for cheese balls is a classic for a reason! This cheese, green onion, pecan, and spice combination is the perfect centerpiece for any snack board.
I finally feel like I’m coming out of my winter hibernation mode now that the weather is getting warmer and we’ve made it through the time change.
I’m planning backyard barbecues and pool parties for friends and family, and I’m scheming of foods to serve.
I like to lay out a dish with crackers, fresh fruit, and a handmade cheese ball for everyone to nibble on, in addition to the traditional summer sides like old-fashioned baked beans and amish macaroni salad and a pitcher of strawberry lemonade.
RECIPE FOR MY FAVORITE CLASSIC CHEESE BALL
Dips and munchies are my jam, as you all know. I could gladly live on snacks, whether it’s spinach artichoke dip, sausage balls, or a cheese ball and a platter of crackers.
Cheese balls were a party staple when I was a kid in the Midwest. It was usually a bright orange cheese ball with chopped nuts served with Chicken in a Biskit crackers or, if you were feeling sophisticated, Ritz crackers.
Don’t get me wrong: I still like a store-bought cheese ball. However, I felt that it was past time for me to create my own famous cheese ball recipe.
After all, handmade cheese balls are really simple to prepare and are ideal for serving at any event, whether it’s a brunch, dinner party, or simply a casual movie night.
For my variation, I utilized the conventional cream cheese and cheddar cheese combo, then added green onions, a generous quantity of seasonings, and finely chopped nuts to finish.
The finished cheese ball is tasty and goes well with crackers, almonds, or fresh fruit.
Instructions ON HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
If you thought making cheese balls would be difficult, think again!
You’ll need the following Ingredients:
This cheese ball recipe doesn’t need anything out of the ordinary. You’ll need the following items:
- 16 oz. softened cream cheese
- 8 oz. cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
- 3 thinly sliced green onions
- 1 tblsp. worcestershire
- 1 teaspoon chives (dry)
- a quarter teaspoon of garlic powder
- 12 teaspoon parsley (dry)
- a quarter teaspoon of fine sea salt
- 2/3 cup pecans, finely chopped
If you want to make this dish vegetarian, just omit the worcestershire sauce and add a pinch of salt, or use soy sauce for the worcestershire sauce.
In this cheese ball recipe, I like to use a strong cheddar, but you may use a softer cheddar if that’s what you like or have on hand.
Creating this dish
Before you begin, make sure your cream cheese is nice and soft. Check out my ideas for softening cream cheese if you neglected to lay it out ahead of time.
Using an electric mixer, whip the softened cream cheese until it is smooth and creamy in a large mixing basin.
Combine the cheddar cheese, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, and spices in a large mixing bowl. Mix everything together with the mixer until it’s completely smooth.
It’s time to form the cheese ball now!
What is the best way to make a cheese ball?
For most individuals, this is the most daunting portion. How can you acquire the ideal round form for your cheese ball mixture?
On a level surface, lay down a big sheet of plastic wrap. Fill the middle of the plastic wrap with the mixture.
Bring the plastic wrap’s edges up to cover the cheese and roll it into a ball. To tighten the ball, twist the edges together.
I put mine in a bowl and put it in the fridge to cool. The bowl will keep the cheese ball from developing a flat patch on the surface where it was placed!
Unwrap the cheese ball and coat it with finely chopped nuts once the mixture has cooled. The pecans will also help disguise any imperfections – not that anybody will notice when it’s this good!
PREPARE AHEAD OF TIME AND STORAGE SUGGESTIONS
Because the secret to a successful cheese ball recipe is to chill it for many hours before serving, this is an ideal dish to prepare ahead of time for a party.
Make the cheese ball up to a day ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve. When it’s almost done, roll it in pecans and serve it to your guests!
Any leftover cheese ball may be kept in the refrigerator for up to 5 days if firmly wrapped.
Is it possible to freeze cheese balls?
You can freeze this cheese ball recipe for longer-term preservation if you want to try preparing it even farther ahead of time.
Before rolling the cheese ball in pecans, put it in the freezer. Wrap it in a second layer of plastic wrap, then a layer of heavy duty foil when it has cold.
You may keep the cheese ball frozen for up to a month.
Allow the cheese ball to defrost in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before serving. Allow plenty of time for it to defrost before rolling it in nuts and serving it.
